Reflection Group at Port nelson United Church

Tuesday Afternoon Reflection Group
This is a group of women who come together to explore, develop and share their faith journey's through literature and discussion every Tuesday afternoon. We delve into the history of the Bible, investigate other faiths, read the faith stories of others and examine the philosophies of modern theology in order to enrich our knowledge of Christianity. It is a group that supports the footsteps of the individual while they walk together. New members are always welcome - drop in any Tuesday afternoon.

Port Nelson Library

At first the Library was just books. They used a card catalogue and a manual typewriter. Now, they are computerized! They have 2.048 titles in their collection (impressive!) and although there certainly are books everywhere, there have CDs, Videos, DVDs and magazines. You can find devotional materials, biographies, self-help books and good fiction on their shelves. There is classical and jazz music and a very special Children's Corner. The library is open one half hour before and after church and any weekday by request. It is said that "books are friends waiting patiently to be picked up" so come into our Library and discover new friends.

Rieki at Port Nelson

Reiki Circle
The Reiki Circle meets the second Tuesday evening of the month in the Nursery, from September until May. Anyone with Reiki training is welcome to attend. This group has been in place for over three years and is composed of both Port Nelson members and Reiki practitioners from the community. They share our Reiki experiences, send distance Reiki to those in need, and give Reiki to one another. Join us next month if you are interested.

Study Group

Study Groups
Port Nelson gathers regularly for study - sometimes during the week (morning, afternoon and evening) as well as for longer sessions on the weekend. These studies take many forms but all include lively, engaging, thought provoking discussion in a safe and respectful atmosphere. Be on the look out for the next opportunity to study and share together.

Elaine´s Vision

Elaine's Vision
Elaine´s Vision is a women´s small group ministry of fellowship. They are committed to supporting and showing concern for their group, their church and communities at home and afar. Guest speakers enlighten them often at their monthly meetings while at other meetings they bake or decorate for Mistletoe Mart or work on special meaningful projects. Participating in the Women´s Candlelight Communion Service at Christmas time is a spiritual high for all. New members are always welcome on the third Wednesday of the month in the O'Brien Room.

Port Nelson Book Study

Monday Night Book Study
How many times have you finished reading a good book and then wished you could discuss the content with another reader? Come and join our informal Monday night book study group where we take a few weeks at a time to look at a particular book of interest. We have studied The Book of Negroes (and had the author join us for an evening), The Secret Life of Bees (and then watched the movie together) and The Shack (traveling to Toronto to hear the author) to name but a few. We invite you to join us - watch for more information about our current book in the weekly calendar.

United Church Observer article discussions

Not Just An Observer
Once a month we gather in the Library before worship (from 9:00 - 10:00) to talk about an article or two in the latest United Church Observer. This wonderful written and insightful magazine is the tool we use to grow in our own sense of spirituality and to share in the spiritual journeys of the others gathered with us. Join us on the third Sunday of each month (if you haven't read the current article, come anyway) for coffee, muffins and great discussion.
